George Willis Merriman, age 92 of Merriman Road, Fieldale, Virginia passed away Thursday, September 17, 2009 in the Stanleytown Health & Rehab Center.

Born July 31, 1917 in Preston, Virginia , he was the son of the late Charles Lee & & Mary Lou Clark Merriman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn Christine Via Merriman on December 17, 2007. His brothers; J. William Merriman, Ernest L. "Buck" Merriman and sisters; Lucy M. Shelton, Sue M. Wilkinson, Virginia M. Compton and Pauline M. Barrow.

He was a First Sergeant in the United States Army serving during World War II. He was a longtime member of the Fieldale Baptist Church, and was retired from SunTrust bank with over 30 years of service. He served on the board of the Fieldale Insurance Agency, and was a past member of the Collinsville Lions Club and the former Fieldale Rotary Club.

He is survived by
A Special Niece-Dana Bower Rygas & her family, Alex, Spencer, Aaron and Adrian-Pulaski

& Many other nieces and nephews and their families-

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Norris Funeral Services Chapel, Martinsville with the Pastor Richard Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
