Glenn Coleman Shumate, 81 of Dublin, joined his Heavenly Father on August 17, 2016.

Mr. Shumate was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Janet Morris Shumate, parents, Rudolph C. and Virginia C. Shumate and brother, David Shumate.

He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Fox and brother, James M. Shumate.

Mr. Shumate was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy before attending Virginia Tech and later working as an electrical engineer. He dedicated his life to the service of God and family, making an indelible mark on the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. He will be missed by all those whom he touched.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 PM – Monday, August 22, 2016 at the Dublin Christian Church, 5605 Dunlap Road, Dublin, Virginia – with services performed by Pastor Richie Goad immediately following. He will be laid to rest at the Southwest Virginia Veteran's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Dublin Christian Church.
