Obituary

Grethel Fern Hurley Mounts
January 1, 1927 – June 14, 2011
Our beautiful and beloved mother completed her earthly journey on June 14, 2011 and began her eternal journey in the presence and loving arms of her Lord and Savior. Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that she has finally made it home.

She was a resident of Randolph Avenue in Pulaski and retired from the Pulaski Community Hospital after working in the dietary department. She found much comfort in cooking for her family and others, and loved to garden. She was an avid VT and LSU football fan and enjoyed watching the games with her family. She was the most kind hearted person and was greatly admired by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lovingly called her "Meemaw."
She was born in Middle Elk Creek, Kentucky to the Rev. Gridley and Rebecca Hurley. She was a strong person who endured the death of both of parents and all of her eleven siblings. Her brothers were Burlen Hurley, Walter Hurley, Roy Hurley, Troy Dotson, and Ellis Dotson. Her sisters were Florine Pauley, Murlene Roberts, Ethel Hurley, Josephine Hurley, Gladys Hurley, and Jean Eudaily.

Surviving are two sons, four daughters, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Her sons are Doug and wife Joan Mounts (Honaker, VA) and Dan Mounts (Radford, VA); four daughters, Joyce Loney and husband Harold (Oak Island, NC), Mary Jennings (Saint Amant, LA), Donna (DJ) Ornes (Pulaski, VA), and Loretta and husband Ralph Powers (Dublin, VA).

Grandchildren are Kelly and Chace Loney (Oak Island, NC), Leslie and husband Harrison Magee (Saint Amant, LA), Ryan and husband Chris Mabry (Dublin, VA), Elisha Ornes (Blacksburg, VA), Cory Brooke Powers (Dublin, VA), and Jordan Ornes (Pulaski, VA). Great grand-children are Trey DeHart, Julius and Isabella Mason, Addison Magee, and Drew Mabry.

Per our mother's wishes, all services will be held on the same day. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM on Friday, June 17, 2011, with service beginning at 11:00 AM, and burial immediately
following.
Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Pulaski, VA. Bower Funeral Home, Bob White Blvd, Pulaski, Virginia will handle all services, with Pastor Jim Linkous officiating.

The family would like to recognize the following listed below for the commendable care of our beloved mother. We are eternally grateful and we thank you so very much.
Mr. and Ms. Olin and Margaret Cox, your companionship and friendship meant the world to our mother. Ms. Jerry Lane for the very best care we could have ever hoped for while caring for our mother at home. Dr. Gordon and the staff at Warm Hearth nursing facility; there are not enough words to express our deepest gratitude and heartfelt appreciation. What a blessing your staff was to us. We especially want to thank Shawn, Mary, Marjorie, Tabitha, and Wendy for such professional care and compassion for our mother. Good Samaritan, your thoughtfulness and guidance through this final stage of our mother's journey will not be forgotten.
To our dear extended family, friends, and co-workers, we thank you for the kind words, prayers, acts of kindness, and thoughts during this most difficult time. You are a blessing to us and we sincerely thank you.
