In Loving Memory of Janice Leah Smithwick Davis February 11, 1942 – October 30, 2026
Janice Leah Smithwick Davis, 84, of Woodlawn, Virginia, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2026. Born February 11, 1942, Janice lived a life defined by faith, strength, love, and an unwavering spirit. Her life’s journey included connections to St. Louis, Missouri; Pine Bluff, Arkansas; and Woodlawn, Virginia.
Janice was a remarkable woman whose upbeat spirit shone brightly, even in the midst of pain and adversity. Regardless of the challenges she faced, she continued to touch the lives of those around her with kindness, encouragement, and love. She never gave up, choosing instead to look forward with hope and anticipation for better days ahead. She was truly the embodiment of the Proverbs 31 woman—a woman of strength, dignity, faith, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. A force to be reckoned with, Janice was a very special lady whose presence left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Janice found great joy in life’s simple blessings. She loved cooking, decorating, and gardening, bringing beauty, warmth, and care to everything she touched. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family. Whether gathered around a meal, celebrating special occasions, or simply enjoying one another’s company, her family was always at the heart of her world. Her love for the Lord was evident in her dedication to serving her local church. Throughout the years, she faithfully taught Missionettes, served as nursery director for several years, and delighted in decorating for church events. She gave generously of her time and talents, finding joy in serving others and helping create a welcoming place for worship and fellowship. Her service reflected a heart devoted to God and a genuine love for people.
Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carlie Ray Davis Sr., who passed away on June 30, 2025. Together, they built a family whose love and legacy continue through the generations.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Pauline “Polly” Miller and husband Michael; her son, Carlie Ray “Bubba” Davis Jr. and wife Rebecca; and her grandchildren, Heileigh Rollow and husband Terry Rollow, Hayden Miller and his fiancée Jessica Rae Spence, Hannah Miller, and Mimi Loung. Her family also includes great-grandchildren Jalina Moore and Stephanie Parsley, and great-great-grandchildren Harper Moore, Hallie Moore, Braxtyn Parsley, Addalynn Parsley, and Sawyer Parsley. Sisters and Brothers – Ruth Ann Cato – TX, Charlie (Sandy) Smithwick – AR, Glenn (Glenda) Smithwick – AR, Carolyn Thacker – AR, Paul Smithwick – TX, Lee (Angie) Smithwick - TX
Though her earthly journey has come to an end, Janice’s legacy of faith, perseverance, and unconditional love will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. She faced life’s difficulties with courage, embraced each day with hope, and reminded those around her that even in the hardest seasons, there is always reason to look forward to brighter days.
As Proverbs 31:25 reminds us: “Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.” — Proverbs 31:25 (KJV) Janice was indeed clothed in strength and honor. Her family will forever cherish her memory, her laughter, her determination, and the love she so freely gave.
