Obituary

Lena Ruth Crouch, age 85 of Dublin passed away Friday, August 28, 2015 at her home after a 10 year battle with Parkinson's disease.

She was born January 22, 1930 in Baltimore MD to Albert Lee Shifflett and Hester Pearl Davis Shifflett. Unfortunately her mother passed just five short days after her birth. Due to the circumstances, Lena's maternal aunt and uncle took her in as their own. She considered Moses and Alma Davis Lawson her parents, even bringing Alma to her home in her last days. This allowed her to have two sets of siblings. She spent her youth in Page County in the Shenandoah Valley. It was here she met her former husband Jesse J Crouch. He was an employee of Norfolk Western and his job took their family many places such as Roanoke VA, Portsmouth OH, Bluefield VA, Shenandoah VA and finally Dublin VA in 1970. Her marriage produced four children. In addition she was helpful to many in the community with her talents of housekeeping and cooking. For many years she helped Mary Jane Dudley in the care of the Dudley brothers LT, Billy and Bobby. She was very involved in with the rearing of her grandchildren, so much that she became known as Granny to all.
Lena was predeceased by her parents, her former husband Jesse Crouch, six biological siblings (Bernice, Nina, Georgia, Gertrude, Thomas and Clarence), five adopted siblings (Mildred, Ronald, Vernon, Sonny and Beatrice), and her son Jeffrey Scott Crouch. She is survived by her children, Edward Crouch of Dublin, Jessica Lynn Crouch-Link of Blacksburg and Ellen Crouch-Hullender (Andy) of Dublin, her grandchildren Travis Link and his fiancé Missie of Pulaski and Nic Hullender of Dublin. She is survived by one sister Hilda Tripp of Hephzibah, GA. Additionally she is survived by Carol Baker, whom she considered like a daughter, and grandchildren Sharon Miller (David) of Barren Springs and Drama Davenport of Dublin, and great grandchildren Autumn Miller of Barren Springs and Logan Teany of Radford. Additionally there are numerous nieces and nephews that thought the world of their Aunt Ruth.
