Obituary

Timmy Dee Smith, age 71 of Dublin, passed away peacefully on Monday August 10, 2026, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Pulaski hospital on September 11, 1954 and was the son of the late James G. Smith Sr and Viola King Smith. He retired in 2016 from Volvo in Dublin. He attended Barren Springs Holiness Church. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family, being outdoors working on many projects, and tinkering in his garage. He was a jack of all trades and could make or fix just about anything. He was known to always lend a helping hand if someone needed him. He was a loving father and husband that always protected and provided for his family. He will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother James G. Smith Jr, brother in laws Billy, Rusty, Jerry, and Ricky Slate. Rodney “Shep” Sheppard and Floyd Dehart. Sister in laws Gayle Owen, Becky Dehart, and Libby Slate. Nieces Crystal Evans, Carrie Slate, and Angie Jackson. Nephew Deon Alley.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Barbara Slate Smith of 47 years. Daughter, Brandy Smith Funk (Daniel), Brother, Ronnie Alley (Linda). Sister Anita Wickline (David). Brothers in law Charles, David, and Steve Slate. Sister-in-law Doris Sheppard. Special nephew, Jayce Arehart. Many nieces and nephews. His special fur babies, Cody and Cooper.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Mock and the staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Care in Blacksburg where he received compassionate and excellent care during his illness.
